Opening Hours

Opening hours on weekends are not ver tourist friendly. Generally shops are open late Friday evening, until 14.00 or 2pm on Saturdays and closed on Sundays. Department stores have longer opening hours than retail shops. The shops on and close to Strøget, the main pedestrian street between Rådhuspladsen, Town Hall Square, and Kongens Nytorv stay open an hour or two longer saturdays. Tip: Many department stores and malls are open the first Sunday of the month. The best strategy is to do your shopping Friday evening and Saturday until noon, and then relax, see the sights and enjoy some great food the rest of Saturday and Sunday.

Where to shop

The high scale and international name brand shops are directly on or close to Strøget, the main pedestrian street, between Amagertorv and Kongens Nytorv. The more local shops with fashion, arts and crafts, jewellery and so on are scattered throughout the old part of Copenhagen, which is bordered by The Town Hall Square and H.C. Andersens Boulevard to the West, Nørre Voldgade and Nørreport S-station to the North, the harbour to the South and East and Kongens Nytorv and Gothersgade to the East. The large shopping malls are located outside the downtown Copenhagen. Fields, Scandinavia's largest mall, is at the Ørestad metro stop, just a cross from the metro station and next to the E20 motorway to the airport. Fisketorvet is at the Copenhagen Harbour about a kilometer South of the Marriott Hotel. The closest train station is the Dybbølsbro S-train station.
